At jfoobar labs you will find "stuff" that is either cool, useful or for learning purposes. We hope to create a pretty nice selection over time. Remember, we need it to be fun.
With this Joomla! 1.5+ plugin you can insert Crunchbase information using content markups. When you look at Techcrunch articles you see they use the methodology to insert informational snippets from techcrunch, with this plugin you can do exactly the same but then from within Joomla!>
CrunchBase is the free database of technology companies, people, and investors that anyone can edit. TechCrunch, founded on June 11, 2005, is a weblog dedicated to obsessively profiling and reviewing new Internet products and companies. In addition to covering new companies, we profile existing companies that are making an impact (commercial and/or cultural) on the new web space.
To use this plugin you of course first need to install and activate it in the extension manager. From there the usage is pretty straight forward. You can use the following markups in any content item:
{crunchbase:company}Google{/crunchbase}
{crunchbase:person}Eric Schmidt{/crunchbase}
{crunchbase:financial}Accel Partners{/crunchbase}
{crunchbase:product}iPhone{/crunchbase}

After installation the plugin can be used right away, have fun using it!
Interesting comment. Suppose you also still develop software for Windows 98? Joomla 1.0.x will be end of life at 22nd of July 2009, and for us it makes no sense to support a version we ourselves are not using for at least 1,5 years now.
I really don't get your problem, the source code is provided and you can take the logic to create a 1.0.x. version, no one who is stopping you supporting old versions of software.
Looking forward to see you version, leave a note here so we can link to it.
Thanks wilco for the answer,
Unfortunately window 98 was not the sucess Joomla (even in its J.1.0 framework) is.
So I'll pass on this argument.
I may draw your attention that by stating "...Joomla 1.0.x will be end of life at 22nd of July 2009" you may be wrong! The true fact is that the Joomla Team has decided (for also legitimate reasons) to phase it out, which do not mean that J.1.0 will end its life at that deadlin.
What is clearly understandable and also legitimate is when you state "...for us it makes no sense to support a version we ourselves are not using for at least 1,5 years now.".
This having been made clear, I strongly am grateful and agree with you that "...the source code is provided and you can take the logic to create a 1.0.x. version, no one who is stopping you supporting old versions of software.".
Let me tell you that like the large part of users who have opted for Joomla, Wordpress or Drupal alike, the very inviting incentive were that you even do not need to be a coder or developer.
I sense that may be many of you (outstanding extension developers) often loose sight of this very fact.
Anyway! I insist to say bravo to jfoobar team even if may be I should not benefit of its outstanding exyensions. (I really like them all, so does all J.1.0 users too-).
All the best
Hi Wilco,
Here is a link of your plugin converted to J.1.0 thanks to kksou, an outstanding PHP developer.
That way, the comments on the subject are now closed. Thanks to share, and I bet that the J.1.0 users will appreciate.
Bravo to both of you, jfoobar and kksou (a truely great guy)

Hi,
Bravo for the plugin, but unfortunately those who are still using Joomla 1.0 (for whatever legitimate reason) are left away again.
We all started with this stable framework, and it sounds to many of us that the current trend to phase out J.1.0 (hundreds of thousands of website will remain using it, believe me) is not only a strategical mistake, but truly unfair.
After J.1.5, we'll probably get J.1.6 till.... J.2.0 (or 3.0) and the motto "Open source matters" will be a big joke as I sense that we're heading to a more closed and proprietary system (big tech companies eyeing that deadline with impatience).
If your answer should be the usual "... upgrade to J.1.5" that more and more developers are slashing to the J.1.0 users, what a pitty.
Anyway, bravo again.
