Great news for all Joomla! users and developers, did you dream about Joomla! running on Oracle for a long time? Be happy, it just became real.
The news is out that Oracle is buying Sun and with that comes MySql so when you put two and two together Joomla! will be running on MySql and Oracle when the deal is finished.
If it was really that easy more things will be. So what do you guys think about this deal?
From Techcruch:
Oracle Corporation is to buy Sun Microsystems for $9.50 a share in a deal valued at approximately $7.4 billion, just a few weeks after a deal by IBM to buy Sun fell apart. It looks like Oracle will pay a premium of $2.81 a share, or 42%, over Sun Micro's closing price of $6.69 a share on Friday.
Oracle said the deal is valued at $5.6 billion excluding cash and debt. Oracle is calling Sun's Java "the most important software" it has ever acquired. The deal, which is expected to close in the Summer and was unanimously approved by Sun’s board of directors, has massive implications for the future openness of Java and MySQL.

More about Arno ZijlstraOne would certainly hope it would be that easy. One of the few complaints I have about Joomla, is the lack of support for databases other than MySQL.
Although MySQL is very popular, other major databases such as SQL Server, Oracle and other major databases should be supported out of the box in my opinion.
Putting my money where my mouth is, I'd be glad to help out in an initiative which would see Joomla catering for databases such as the ones I mentioned.
...I have an Oracle Driver available for Joomla 1.5 (I'm not running Joomla off of Oracle, but it does allow me to interface with an Oracle database).
Oracle is much faster then MYSQL. We can hope to see joomla will support oracle in future.
@Moblie prices
Ofcourse Oracle is faster as it is paid and has dedicated R&D team for it.
