Lyon Poche is a French Joomla city guide, and was developed using a component with which the newspaper's team can feed the database with a nice interface, export their information to quark xpress with an automatic layout system and publish all their information on the frontend portal. This system has been the "Technological innovation of the year" at the French Press conference this year, and yes, yes...they use Joomla!

Just a short while ago I was invited to do the keynote on the upcoming CMS Expo In Chicago. My keynote will cover the importance of community for the Joomla! Project. I am thinking on the exact content of the presentation for this professional event, but I plan to focus on the power of all together (remember what Joomla stands for?). The time available for the talk is pretty short, so I will focus on why it's good for community members to participate by showing what we've achieved in the past 3,5 years and why Joomla is going strong and still is growing.
Approximately 200-250 are expected to attend the conference, dedicated toward empowering CMS professionals and expanding the use of collaborative CMS solutions like Joomla! worldwide. For those interested, there are 48 training sessions planned, with six training tracks – one entirely dedicated toward the Joomla! Core CMS. CMS Expo training is led by actual users from the community, businesspeople, developers, designers and administrators - who have “been there, done that,” and are there to give hands-on advice to attendees on how to achieve their goals. Attendees leave CMS Expo with a community of contacts, Skype addresses and they can reach out to for honest, point-blank answers on what works, and what does not, when it comes to utilizing the CMS or extension of choice.
Hope to meet you there!

There's been a lot of hype around "the cloud" lately. Services like Amazon's AWS, Google App Engine and Microsoft Windows Azure have sprung into the forefront over the past year or so, bringing "the cloud" from academia to the forefront. Increasingly it seems that many business and websites are betting the farm on the cloud. Websites like woot.com, webmail.us and drupal.org have all jumped on the cloud bandwagon. And with seemingly great success! But what's the reality of what’s going on here? Is the cloud worth the bet (To the end user)?

This week the final assignments of the project slots has been announced by Google. With the Summer of Code program Google continues for the fifth year sponsering the open source projects in a way that I consider to be absolutely unique.
Some consider this effort of Google an investment, I rather speak of sponsorship, and indeed not a small piece of sponsering, but some really major kick ass support! The Joomla! project announced the accepted students in the community blog and with that the Joomla project is also supported with an amazing 90.000 USD!
Rock on Google!

Great news for all Joomla! users and developers, did you dream about Joomla! running on Oracle for a long time? Be happy, it just became real.
The news is out that Oracle is buying Sun and with that comes MySql so when you put two and two together Joomla! will be running on MySql and Oracle when the deal is finished.
If it was really that easy more things will be. So what do you guys think about this deal?
From Techcruch:
Oracle Corporation is to buy Sun Microsystems for $9.50 a share in a deal valued at approximately $7.4 billion, just a few weeks after a deal by IBM to buy Sun fell apart. It looks like Oracle will pay a premium of $2.81 a share, or 42%, over Sun Micro's closing price of $6.69 a share on Friday.
Oracle said the deal is valued at $5.6 billion excluding cash and debt. Oracle is calling Sun's Java "the most important software" it has ever acquired. The deal, which is expected to close in the Summer and was unanimously approved by Sun’s board of directors, has massive implications for the future openness of Java and MySQL.
