About Us

Welcome to our site. You might wonder what this site is about? Well, foobar is an universal variable understood to represent whatever is being discussed. It's commonly used in coding, most frequently in coding examples like the PHP example below:

$foo = "Hello, ";
$bar = "World";
echo $foo . $bar;
// This simple program renders "Hello, World"

Another description that explains our goals with this site can be found on Wikipedia where the term foobar is a common placeholder name, also referred to as meta syntactic variable, a term which is used in computer programming or computer-related documentation. In technology, the word was probably originally propagated through system manuals by Digital Equipment Corporation in the 1960s and the early 1970s. Another possibility is that foobar evolved from electronics, as an inverted foo signal. This is because if a digital signal is active low (so a negative or zero-voltage condition represents a "1") then a horizontal bar is commonly placed over the signal label. The Jargon File makes a case that foo possibly predates FUBAR, but let's not mix foobar with fubar (which stands for Fucked Up Beyond All Repair).

Looks geeky does it not? And what has this got to do with the content you will find on this site? We plan to provide several services on this site, and as the explanation of the term foobar above we plan talk about anything, we have no specific target audience...sounds weird doesn't it? Let's be a bit more specific then.

Let's start with the "J" in front of the foobar. When looking for a proper domain name, we found out that www.foobar.com/org already was in use, but JFoobar was available, and as the people behind this site are Joomla! professionals, this name was an obvious choice. Some of us are Joomla! co-founders, (ex) core team members, working group members (development, infrastructure, communications) and so on. Check out the people in the foobar (column next to this page) to see the people who work behind the scenes to keep this site running.

This site holds the following information:

  • Blogging from top open-source expects. Most likely we will provide Joomla! related information on any topic we would like to talk about.
  • A website repository. A directory holding almost all public available information about certain sites.

Blogging team

We have a team that works on the blogs presented on this site. Below you will find all present members who are actively working on blogs on this site.

Please contact us if you are interested in helping us out with the creation of the blogs.
